Additional notesNorth Bierley Cemetery The land forming the North Bierley Cemetery was set apart for a prospective burial ground during the regime of the former Urban District Council for North Bierley. Its lay-out had not been completed when North Bierley was brought within the City. The work connected with the formation of the cemetery was taken in hand by the Corporation and the consecration of the Anglican Section of the ground took place on the 16th October 1902 North Bierley cemetery has very strong links with the Polish and Ukrainian communities of Bradford. Each community have a memorial in the cemetery and take great pride in keeping their individual graves in pristine condition. There are sections for non conformist Roman Catholic, Anglican, Babies & Young Children and a section for the interment of cremated remains. The cemetery opened in 1903 and coved approximately 7 hectares. Although this cemetery was made into a lawn type in 1974 many grave owners wished to keep a small kerb edgings to mark their grave area. The council permitted this recognising the needs of the bereaved to plant an area in memory of their loved ones.
