Additional notesSite and Location Redditch Crematorium is situated on the northern boundary of the town, adjacent to the site of Bordesley Abbey, the charter of which was issued in 1138. Its magnificent location on top of a hill overlooking the arrow valley park uniquely offers outstanding veiws from the chapel window and extensive naturally informal gardens. in its apperent seclusion it is served by the A441 road which links birmingham and evesham and is just ten minutes from Junction 2 of the M42. The Building The dedication ceremony was attended by all faiths and conducted by the Bishop of Worcester, the Right Rev. Robin Woods KCVO MA on its completion in January 1973. The building has been designed to fit into its natural setting. The floor and facias are Welsh grey slate and copper, with ceilings of cedar and pinewood. the lofty and spacious chapel is simple, with pews for seating eighty people. Disposition of Cremated Remains Cremated remains may be scattered in dedicated areas of the gardens subject to the authority of the applicant for cremation. the ceremony may be witnessed or not and a record is kept of the location of each scattering, in compliance with the Cremation Acts and Regulations. This means that relatives from the same family may have their ashes scattered over the same area at a future time. Scattering areas cannot be individually marked in memory of the deceased. Alternatively, ashes can be buried in individual plots situated in Abbey Cemetery on payment of the fee charged. These plots can be marked with ledger memorials and have a maximum capacity for two caskets. of course, ashes may be removed from the crematorium on authority of the applicant for cremation and disposed of elsewhere in accordance with instructions given.
